49° North

  • New ownership in April, 2019 has brought new ideas and energy to the mountain. 49 Degrees North looks forward to providing another season of great skiing and riding to our guests!
  • New ownership has given us the opportunity to sell a Combo Season Pass with our sister mountain, Silver Mountain Resort. This pass allows people to ride both mountains at the bargain price of $579 for adults or $449 for youth. A Combo Pass gives unlimited access to both mountains so skiers can chase the powder and enjoy events at both resorts. It also allows our passholders a great option for recreation on the days we are closed.
  • Expanded and improved grooming fleet, including a new Pisten Bully alpine groomer and Nordic Skandic groomer for our Nordic Trail system, as well as a state-of-the-art GPS tracking system.
  • The Lodge is receiving many exciting renovations this summer. Areas inside and out are being painted and refreshed for the coming season. The Boomtown Bar and Grill will be renovated with more modern décor, and new carpets and furnishings will be installed. New restaurant equipment will allow for faster service and additional menu options. All restroom facilities are being updated with water saving fixtures as we move towards a more ecologically friendly footprint.
  • A new Sunkid Conveyor lift with a full cover is being installed in the beginner area this fall. This lift will make learning the sport easier and more fun as it will serve the beginner run and be a great resource for our Ski & Snowboard School.

  • Expansion Area Brush Cutting:  Our new triple chairlift and 279-acre expansion area was a huge hit last season.  Thanks to the hard work of staff and volunteers, this season the new runs on Chair 6 have been cleared for easier grooming and earlier opening. Come experience the new views and “game-changing” professionally developed runs!
  • Improved WiFi in our Lodges:  Ptera, a locally owned and operated internet service provider, has worked closely with us over the Summer to greatly improve our WiFi capabilities. Both our lodges will have more bandwidth and connections available to serve our guests. Get those devices out and give it a whirl this winter!
  • Mountain Sports School Learning Center: The interior of ourbeautiful new building designed to house 100+ instructors has been completed over the Summer.  Finish carpentry work; including built-in office desks, kitchen cabinets, interior and exterior painting are among the many projects constructed.  We greatly appreciate the support of our Washington State legislative delegation and the state’s Capital Budget Committee for funding this project and understanding the growing demand for affordable outdoor recreation in our region and the recreational, social and economic impacts it generates.
  • Mt. Spokane is part of the economic picture for our region as they hire up to 300 part-time employees every season to support ski and snowboard operations.  A Job Fair will be held November 2nd at the ski area’s Main Lodge.  Interviews begin at 8:00am and potential candidates can interview with any department manager.  99% of seasonal employees are hired at this event. Silver Mountain

  • Just last week we shut down from a fantastic summer season.  It was a record season for scenic rides and biking.  It was a surreal experience to mountain bike down the last weekend in 4 inches of new snow.
  • A New Sports Shop has opened in the Gondola Village.  It will offer the latest sportswear and offer ski tuning and repairs. It will also have a beginner/ learn to area that people can try on boots and have an indoor climate-controlled snowboard experience for kids to help get new people into the sport.  This shop also houses our bike operation in the summertime.
  • Glading projects are continuing on the mountain.  The Bootlegger/Moonshine and Terrible Edith areas were opened this year.
  • We are welcoming a new Piston Bully groomer into our fleet this year which will result in even better corduroy conditions.
  • A new combo pass is now available that allows people to ski both Silver and 49 Degrees North for one low price.
  • The beginner/progression Terrain Park is being expanded with new features and the addition of music. This has become the most used trail on the mountain.
  •  There will be three-night ski parties that combine value lift tickets, live music and food specials.
  • Jackass Day is January 10th with $12 ski tickets all day Friday.  We continue the party with $12 night ski tickets on the 11th and live music on hill.
  • February 8th we will be celebrating night skiing because the ground hog said there will be six more weeks of winter.
  • March 7th we will host Mardi Gras and the Doug E. Fresh Memorial banked slalom event.
  • Our popular tubing hill run out was lengthened to increase the safety.
  • As always, a substantial amount of brushing and dirt work was completed to allow for great early season conditions.

Lookout Pass

  • Lookout’s updated Master Development Plan was approved by the USFS this summer. This phased development includes 2 new chairlifts to Eagle Peak, which will make Lookout Pass a two peak ski resort with14 additional ski runs, growing from 540 to 1,023 acres. Total vertical drop will increase by 500ft growing from 1,150 to 1,650’ with a top elevation of 6,150’.
  • A New American Made SkyTrac Quad Chairlift is being installed as we speak and will be ready for opening day. This lift replaces our Chair #1 double on the front of the mountain, greatly enhancing uphill capacity.  This was a lynchpin for the forthcoming development of the Eagle Peak expansion area. It certainly makes this a much more family friendly ride.
  • A 2.3-mile permanent maintenance road to the Eagle Peak Summit was completed this summer.
  • The USFS timber contract was also recently completed. All trails are now marked (flagged) and logging of the lower sections of some runs was started, remnant piles were burned under by US Forest Service a few days ago. More trail work will be completed next summer.
  • A new Pisten Bully 400 groomer was added to the fleet of Pisten Bully and Prinoth grooming machines to further our commitment to world class grooming!
  • A new Ski School Director, Abby, will be joining the team on Oct. 21st. Abby comes most recently by way of Jackson Hole, while she cut her teeth working for her family at Tussey Mountain, in Central PA – visible from the Penn State University campus.
  • Lookout Pass maintains our commitment to open as early as possible (looking for mid-November if weather cooperates), as is our long-standing reputation to be the first to open in the region. A testament to our legendary snow.
  • The mountain will operate 7-days a week from 12/20 the start of Christmas Vacation through the end of February. See our website for early & late season days and operating hours which will be posted & updated as snow as significant snow arrives.
  • A newly revised kids program mini Moose will be offering lessons for children ages 4 to 12 in full and ½ day lesson options.
  • The grass and brush on the front of the mountain has again been mowed down and other key trails are in the process of being mowed. This will make it easier for the mountain to open given the gift of natural snow from Old Man Winter!
  • Lookout Pass achieved a new visitation record during the 2018-2019 winter season with 85,287 skiers & riders visiting the resort – this is up 11.53% over last year, which was also a record season.
  • This summer also saw another new visitation record for our summer rail-to-trail adventure, The Route of the Hiawatha, a family friendly scenic bicycling adventure enjoyed 59,500 visitors. This makes for 3 record breaking seasons in a row.  The doors on that experience just closed on Sept. 22nd and will re-open the third weekend in May in 2020. Quick transitions between skiing and biking here.
  • There’s a reason Lookout Pass is called the “#1 Powder Place”. With an annual average of over 400” of light, dry, Northern Rockies POWDER (462” last season, 503” the year before), Lookout Pass offers an abundance of incredible powder days and exceptional snow quality. Great snow quality also means outstanding grooming of runs for all ages and ability levels to enjoy!
  • Lookout Pass has also established itself as “The Region’s Favorite Family Ski Area” with incredibly affordable rates and its signature Free Ski School for Kids. The FSS program starts on January 4, 2020.  This nationally recognized program has been in existence for 78 years and is the oldest program of its kind in the country. When we say Free, we mean just that! The lessons are free and no lift ticket purchase is required to ski during the lesson sessions.  Kids and Juniors, ages 7-17 years, may participate in as many of the 9 lesson sessions as they are able. The lessons are offered every Saturday morning starting January 4 right through March 7.  Registration is now open for the 2019-2020 season and is limited to the first 500 participants. Please inform guests to visit www.SkiLookout.com/Free-Ski-Schoolfor more information on this historic program.
  • Lookout Pass has the most affordable Lift Tickets and Season Pass rates in the region. An adult Season Pass is available right now for just $265 if purchased by Oct. 31st and an incredible rate for College Student Season Passes is available for the unheard of rate of just $99 again if purchased by Oct. 31st. Lift tickets for Adults range from a full day midweek rate of $45 to a peak holiday rate of just $52. We are all about value!
