What's New for 2016-17

Here's what's new at all of your Ski NW Rockies Resorts this season!


49° North Mountain Resort:

The Company's multi-million dollar 2016 commitment to upgrade and modernize 49° North Mountain Resort:

  • Sunrise Basin Base Area Transformation. The entire base of Chair 5 Sunrise Quad is transformed. We have finalized the majority of infrastructure construction including a private high speed fiber optic network, wastewater collection systems, 130,000 gallon water storage tank and pump house, paved Nelson Creek Road out to the Yurts, three unisex bathrooms, and the completion of the first of several ski under bridges. The 2016 building of the residential structures includes a Sold Out 8-plex Alpine Condo unit, a 5-plex private residence Alpine Glades townhouse and one single family house.

  • Improved Food and Beverage. With 2400 acres of in-bound terrain, it is easy to work up an appetite at 49° North Mountain Resort. New for 2016/17 will focus on using locally sourced products and ingredients. We will feature Angus Meats a local Spokane meat purveyor and Petit Chat Bakery will provide us will fresh local baked goods. Additionally, check out Chewelah’s best breakfast with homemade waffles, made from scratch soups and chowders, out of this world homemade Ruben. We are expanding our Friday Afternoon Club experience (FAC) that will feature live music, drink and food specials.

  • New Rental Equipment.  As part of a multi-year program to modernize its ski and snowboard rental shop.  We have purchased new products from Rossignol and Head.

  • New Grooming Equipment.   We are commitment to providing you with perfectly groomed slopes so we added 2 new PistenBully 300 Kandahar snow cats to our fleet.  

Lookout Pass

  • Terrain Expansion: Phase One of Lookout’s long-range expansion plan has been accepted by the U.S. Forest Service. Phase One incudes two chairlifts on Eagle Peak, a mountain to the immediate west of the existing ski area, with a potential to add up to 700 acres with 14 new ski runs plus glade areas with a 1,400' vertical drop. Final environmental analysis will be released any day now with project approval expected soon.

  • A new 14,000 square foot base lodge is projected to start construction during the summer of 2017.  The main level will house a new food court, expanded seating, and meeting room space.  The lower level will have overnight lodging rooms.

  • Terrain Parks: Jibbers will discover numerous improvements and upgrades to Rolling Thunder and Huckleberry Jam terrain parks, including new features, rails and table tops.  The Rolling Thunder quarter-pipe is 1,111 feet in length, the longest in the nation!

Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park:

  • Remodeling projects were completed at Lodge 2 including; new windows, siding, slope side entries and beautiful hand-hewn finish work inside.  

  • To better the spectacular wedding venue a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) was installed on Chair 1.  This will allow the ability to accommodate summer chairlift activities in the future and keep the “Vista Cruiser” humming along in all seasons.  

  • A fleet of vegetation management equipment was purchased mid-summer and has been in use maintaining the slopes ever since.  This machinery will enable the runs to be ready as soon as possible for opening day.

  • All new state-of-the-art rental ski and boots by Rossignol will arrive very soon.  Engineered to help any level skier achieve success on the slopes, they have an auto turn rocker that is more versatile and make it easier to ski in a broad range of snow and terrain. Every guest that has skied on our Elan and our Rossignol say the difference is night and day and that they love the Rossignol skis. The boots have four shell lengths with 12 sizes and an anatomical liner with an easy buckle system. We are excited to offer new technology AND comfort!

  • October brought our first snow and first snowman at the Vista House.

Silver Mountain

  • Daily operations are back for the 2016-2017 Season! Seven day a week operations planned for December 16, 2016- April 9, 2017. Friday through Sunday operations planned beginning November 24, 2016

  • The team on the mountain has been hard at again focusing on an extensive brush cutting campaign to enhance the early season riding conditions and provide more terrain with less snow.

  • Reopening a popular on mountain Food and Beverage stop at midway chair 4.

  • A fresh remodel will greet guests of the mountaintop rental shop
