What's New for 2017

at Your Ski the Northwest Rockies Resorts?

Your Ski the NW Rockies is comprised of four local, accessible mountains, all within 100 miles of Spokane.  Silver Mountain, 49° North, Lookout Pass, and Mt. Spokane all offer affordable winter fun for the whole family.

49° North

  • Expanded and intensive brush cutting program for the huge 2,000 acres ski area.  This year we will have all runs cut to the nubs to allow earlier season start up.
  • New webcams. We have upgraded our webcams to high resolution and added one more camera location (bottom of chair 5) we plan on adding more in the very near future (Top of chair 6 and looking east off of chair #5)

Mt. Spokane Ski & Snowboard Park

  • Expansion on the backside approved!  August 2nd marked the beginning of construction creating nearly 80 additional acres of groomed trails and seven new runs. It will be accessible without lift service this season and expected to be fully operational for the 18-19 season.
  • Fulfilling our Mission to Teach:  Pre-construction and permitting has been completed for a new Mountain Sports Learning Center to be built in time for the 18/19 season.  The work will allow us to expand and improve the learning terrain in the base area.   Instructors and beginners of all ages will appreciate the new surface lift included in the project, sometimes referred to as a magic carpet.
  • Tubing Hill Expansion and Relocation: The Children's Choice tubing hill will be moved near Lodge One and be open this season. It will provide an improved layout and convenient access to Lodge 1 services.  By doubling it's size and purchasing more tubes, it will accommodate larger groups including private reservations for parties. For the 18/19 season, a new warming hut and observation building designed by ACLS architects will also be on the site.
  • As we grow, lodge improvements continue.  To match the new bathrooms upstairs, main lodge downstairs women’s and men’s bathrooms have been completely remodeled with fresh flooring and fixtures.
  • To top it all off, we are celebrating our 20th anniversary as a non-profit organization with special events planned throughout the upcoming season.

Silver Mountain

Silver Mountain is celebrating 50 years of operation this season, and we’re continuing to step up our skier experience in a big way!  We’re currently working on Mountain House remodel plans for next summer, but this winter you can expect to see to following improvements.

Ski Area

  • New Ski Run- Klondike Express is a new intermediate run in the Chair 2 Basin that allows for nonstop top to bottom laps and easy access to the terrain park.
  • Glading- We have a crew of skiers working on expanding the glading in the North Face Glades area of the mountain.  This zone already features some of the best tree riding in the Northwest, and it’s getting even better for the 2017/18 season! Primary areas of focus are below Gate 1, Gate 3, the fire lookout, near Sunset, and within the legendary P-Shots. This is some of the deepest and steepest skiing in the region.
  • Brush cutting efforts have been stepped up dramatically this summer, as we have continued to expand the program over the last eight years.  This summer we have quadrupled the amount of machine time spent out on the main runs, which has freed our hand crews up to concentrate on the hard to reach areas.
  • The region’s longest tubing lanes have been lengthened to provide an even longer ride for our guests, and some reengineering on our carpet lift will allow us to improve the upload times during heavy snowfall.  Longer runs, and a faster ride to the top!
  •  Our new Snow Sports School Director has updated all of our programs to better suit our guests needs.  With an emphasis on getting people hooked on skiing and boarding we’ve added fun and affordable new ways to successfully join these sports. From on-mountain day care, to all-inclusive packages that feature a FREE season pass, we have what you need to spend more time on the snow!

Online

  • We’ll be installing a new HD webcam on top of Kellogg Peak.  This camera will be pointed back towards the top of Chair 2 and will allow guests to get a better look at what conditions are like.
  • Our Snow Stake webcam, and both Mountain House webcams have been upgraded to HD quality for the 17/18 season.  With the addition of the new Kellogg Peak camera, we have all HD webcams on the mountain now. Guests will also be able to view a live feed of the mountain via our new screen mounted in the village.

Facilities

  • All of our 116 gondola cabins are being deep cleaned inside and out, buffed, and refitted with new seats! The gondola ride is being returned to its former glory!
  • Mo’s Froyo and Joe is now open in the Gondola Village, and will provide espresso, coffee, and a full frozen yogurt bar.
  • A beverage and snack shack will be opening right next to the gondola upload line, allowing you to grab a coffee and snack for the ride up.
  • Silver Mountain Sports is remodeling and adding two additional tech stations to speed up the rental process even more during busy holiday periods. We have a new fleet of 2017/18 demo skis coming in along with the yearly update to our regular rental fleet of high quality Rossignol skis and boards.
  •  The Jackass Snack Shack will be reopened for the first time in years to provide food and beverages in the Chair 4 Basin during the busiest times of the year.

Lookout Pass

  • Terrain Expansion to Eagle Peak: Phase One of Lookout’s long-range expansion plan was approved on May 18 by the U.S. Forest Service. Phase One incudes two chairlifts on Eagle Peak, a mountain to the immediate west of the existing ski area, with a potential to add up to 700 acres. One trail is currently being cut and will be open for winter 2017-18 season, while the bulk of the additional trails and gladded areas will be cut and ready for the 2018-19 season.  As a result of the expansion, Lookout Passes vertical will increase from 1,150 to 1,650 feet, and the total skiable acres will grow from 538 to 1,023, almost doubling the total skiable acres for the area. For more on the expansion visit: ( https://skilookout.com/future-expansion )
  • The new trail that is opening for this winter is named Tamarack. The new Tamarack run project was started on Oct. 5th and is now 50% complete.  The trail is an intermediate run which stretches one mile in length and takes off from Rainbow Ridge, skiers right, and arcs back to This-Way/That-Way to bring skiers to the bottom of Chair 2, Timber Wolf.  The project is on schedule and the mountain anticipates opening Tamarack as soon as there is sufficient snow on the backside.
  •  A New Roof was added to the Rental building over the summer.
  • The mountain announced some new additions to the management team. All bring many years of experience to their positions.  General Manager, Brian Bressel; Snowsports School Director, Jim Carver and Marketing & Sales Director, Matt Sawyer.
  • Learn to Ski or Ride in 3 Days at Lookout Pass for Just $99. This Ski in 3 program includes lift tickets, rental equipment and group lessons for all three days. Plus there is a tremendous benefit all who complete the program. This is a program for first timers who have never skied or snowboarded before.
